They Died With Their Boots On

Charles_Marion_Russell_-_The_Custer_Fight_(1903)

Drums along the warpath
Smoke is risin’ high
Ride on down to the Little Big Horn
Where you’re all goin’ to die
All you boys in blue
Of the 7th Cavalry
Soon you’re goin’ to find out
How real Hell can be
Polish up those spurs and buttons
Put a nice shine on those shoes
Your boots will be the only thing
You ain’t goin’ to lose
Had no way to know
They’d give you a name
But to die with your boots on
Is to die all the same.

I really like this and in my head I read it in that whole western accent. I especially love the last two lines, they make for a great conclusion 🙂
