Squidbillies Season 12 (2019) Review

We’ve made it to the end of my Squidbillies review project. Well, there’s a season, the final one, in progress as I type up this review. I’m not watching it. Unknown Hinson’s no longer the voice of Early Cuyler. He got fired for voicing an opinion and the liberal creators of the series couldn’t deal with his use of his First Amendment right of free speech. In all fairness, the series has fallen and limped to the finish even with Hinson. Season 12 from 2019 is the last season I’m doing for this review project. Squidbillies is one of those shows there aren’t a lot of notes on because there isn’t a lot of information. You’d think after so many seasons there would be fan sites with all the information as the special guests, musical intros, and the like. Nothing for this season. Jason Isbell is back as a recurring cast member. Steve Earle returns as himself in another half-hour episode. Those are usually dreadful, but “Muscadine Wine” isn’t a bad. A “deep cut.” Music legend Jerry Lee Lewis does a live-action version of the theme and at 80-plus years years old, he entertains. It’s the highlight of the season, and he does it for the fifth episode. Sadly, this season isn’t very good. We get a “greatest hit.” Two “deep cuts.” The other six episodes making up this season, which ran from August 11 to September 15, 2019, are awful. The last two in particular and the eighth episode might be the worst of the Hinson era. Favorite? The “hit,” “Cooler-Heads Prevail.”
